The artifacts are mostly syntactical in nature. That is, we could have just as much functionality with fewer syntactic features. I asked the audience (about 60 people) if they knew how many ways there were to represent a link between two resources in XML. I showed a video animation here; it is not online but there are stills and a transcription.
