The Smith Premier was the most advertised and successful double keyboard typewriter of its time. Double keyboard typewriters had no shift key, with the black keys giving upper case and the white keys giving lower case characters

Model 1 is distinguished from the later models by the presence of an ornate, embossed, cattail patterns on the frame.

This typewriter sold for $100.
