One expert in the field told me the letter-forms are a little too rounded, but this was my attempt, back in 1991 or so, at an Anglo-Saxon (Old English language) hand.
Therefore I think it better if you so think, that we also some books, those that most necessary are to all men to know, that we then into that language translate we all understant may, & have done, so we very easily may with God’s help, if we then Stillness have, that all the youth that now is in England, free men, those that the means have that they them selves apply might, being to learning set, as far as they to no one other’s employment may until the first time tht they well know English read [and] wetite.
My translation is rather literal; this was King Alfred’s initiative to provide books in English (rather than the more common Latin) to promote learning for all free men. It did not apply to women and slaves.
