Pretentious Yet Pointless
A constantly changing glammerdümmering, the relationship of the spectator of which is always constant, is sometimes completely altered by the essential fact of the outer surface. The sculpture shares not only Sol Aris's death-identification but also his cosmic perspective and obsession with power.
The embellished ground indicates in some sense active rather than simply one of passive appreciation.
The writhing curves are closed in a glorious send-up of misery. A deep underlying meaning of this particular work is that it is the sensuality of extinction. In post-impressionistic art, the visual phenomena of the manifest world are, in themselves, unimportant: the significant thing is feeling, as such. A notable feature of this piece is the world of happiness and ecstasy contrasting strongly with the dominant angularity and horizontality to indicate the eternal interaction of Yin and Yang.
Such forms, both serene and poetic, create strong gestalt sensations. An interesting side of this image is the impersonal forms and industrial colours contrasting strongly with the emphatically factual experience of sugar and wine of the carving. Sol Aris has not described the aspect ratio of this picture. The artist employs traditional proportions to define the colours, which thus float free.
