Pretentious Yet Pointless
The impersonal forms and industrial colours of Sol Aris's earlier works are clearly visible here, but transformed. In surrealism, the visual phenomena of the objective world are, in themselves, empty: the important thing is feeling, as such. The shapes of Sol Aris's previous works are clearly visible here, but unrecognizably altered. In this sketch Sol Aris shows the relationship between salt and pepper. An interesting aspect of this work is the arena of contrasting light and dark contrasting strongly with the impersonal forms and industrial colours so clearly visible. An interesting aspect of the prototype is that it is a reflection of the process of creation. Such forms, intensely modulated, create disarmingly intenste feelings. The decorated canvas indicates the eternal interaction of Yin and Yang. Contrasts of the senses of smell and sight march across the expanse of the sculpture. The arena of contrasting tone and hue in this image, despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance, create in the mind images steeped in insight and emotion...
The artist does not use traditional proportions to contain the colours, which can by this means float free. Such forms, quietly formal, create strong gestalt sensations. The world of salt and pepper of Sol Aris's previous works are still present, but in a different form.
