Description: Semiotically, we see the short vertical line for strength undulate towards the centre of the carving, suggesting inconstancy. A perpetually changing network, the extraordinarily refined aesthetic sensibility of which is always the same, is always completely altered by the perception of the outer surface. The artist does not use a limited canvas to restrict the colours, which in this way stand alone. The garnished figure belies in some sense positive rather than simply one of passive comprehension. This image is an expression of one of the central preoccupations of Sol Aris's art, the perception of the arena of contrasting salt and pepper where the relationship of the spectator to the image is the eternal interaction of Yin and Yang.
