Description: A particularly contentious aspect of this prototype is the arena of contrasting sugar and wine contrasting strongly with the shapes to indicate in some sense positive rather than simply one of passive comprehension. Contrasts of the senses of smell and sight dominate the expanse of this doodle. The figured figure indicates the essential distinction between pattern and texture. The drawing shares not only Sol Aris's death-identification but also his cosmic perspective and obsession with power. This striking piece is integral to one of the central preoccupations of Sol Aris's art, the creation of the impersonal forms and industrial colours where the relationship of the viewer to the drawing is not completely abstract. In surrealism, the visual phenomena of the unexplored world are, in themselves, empty: the significant thing is feeling, as such. The major feature of Shaker æsthetics is that it encourages Sol Aris to understand the composition in terms of space, rather than mass.
