Pretentious Yet Pointless
In this image Sol Aris shows the relationship between spring and winter. Contrasts of salt and pepper march across the expanse of the image. The layers of approaching curves are forever engraved in a glorious send-up of misery. An interesting aspect of this prototype is the impersonal forms and industrial colours contrasting strongly with the shapes so clearly visible. This painting is integral to one of the central preoccupations of Sol Aris's art, the perception of the world of the senses of sight and touch where the relationship of the viewer to the piece is in some sense active rather than simply one of passive appreciation. The arena of contrasting tone and hue of Sol Aris's other works are clearly visible here, but in a different form. Contrasts of the senses of sight and taste march across the vastness of this work. The figured canvas belies not completely abstract. In neo-impressionism, the visual phenomena of the objective world are, in themselves, unimportant: the significant thing is feeling, as such. In constructive colour theory, the visual phenomena of the physical world are, in themselves, unimportant: the only worthy thing is feeling, as such. The shapes of Sol Aris's other works are clearly visible here, but completely altered.
