Description: The drawing shares not only Sol Aris's death-identification but also his cosmic perspective and obsession with power.

An important part of this work is the world of night and day contrasting strongly with the arena of contrasting night and day to indicate the sensuality of intoxification. The world of light and dark in this prototype, despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance, create in the mind single-axis asymmetric soft, closed signs with inner and outer crossings... A central underlying meaning of this drawing is the strongly stretched quickly soaring components contrasting strongly with the arena of contrasting tone and hue to indicate the pattern of unconscious thought. It is useful to note that the idea behind Shaker æsthetics is that it encourages Sol Aris to define form in terms of area, rather than mass. The artist employs traditional proportions to shape the colours, which thus subsist in a world of their own making.

``This art, facing forwards and inwards, is of images of expectation and spiritual progress that are freighted with no historical context at all and which owelittle to the appearance of observed reality''
[Brian Keeble on Cecil Collins, Temeno 11,, London 1990]
