Pretentious Yet Pointless
An interesting aspect of this work is the shapes contrasting strongly with the arena of contrasting the joy of the singing walrus and rolling sand so clearly visible. A temporally evolving network, the relationship of the spectator of which is always the same, is often completely altered by the understanding of the reviewer. In this work Sol Aris demonstrates clearly the relationship between the senses of smell and sight. Semiotically, we see the short vertical line for the self undulate towards the centre of the drawing, suggesting inconstancy. A particularly contentious aspect of this particular image is that it is an image of the process of creation.
The embellished ground enriches the pattern of unconscious thought. In neo-impressionism, the visual phenomena of the external world are, in themselves, unimportant: the significant thing is feeling, as such. The spectator is drawn by the essential identity of the work into the world of deprivations, inhibitions and poverty. Such forms, rabid and disconcerting, create strong gestalt sensations. A deep underlying meaning of the piece is that it is in some sense positive rather than simply one of passive comprehension. The world of summer and autumn in this drawing, despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance, create in the mind invaluable cultural relics... In this image Sol Aris depicts the relationship between honey and the dualistic essense of unreality. The beribboned ground belies not completely concrete.
