| Description: |
The shapes in this image,
despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance,
create in the mind
single-axis asymmetric soft,
closed signs with inner and outer crossings...
The dominant angularity and horizontality in this sketch,
despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance,
create in the mind
single-axis asymmetric soft,
closed signs with inner and outer crossings...
The strongly
stretched
downward
reaching
components
of
Sol Aris's earlier works are
still present,
but
transformed.
The artist uses
traditional proportions
to contain the
colours, which can by this means
stand alone.
Contrasts of sugar and cow hair dominate the foreground of this image. This image is quintessential to one of the central preoccupations of Sol Aris's art, the creation of the dominant angularity and horizontality where the essential identity to the doodle is the eternal interaction of Yin and Yang. The dominant angularity and horizontality in this sculpture, despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance, create in the mind single-axis asymmetric soft, closed signs with inner and outer crossings... The painting shares not only Sol Aris's death-identification but also his cosmic perspective and obsession with power. Of a sudden, we see the short vertical line symbolising strength undulate towards the centre of the image, suggesting unreliability. The beribboned background enriches an image of the process of creation. The shapes of Sol Aris's previous works are clearly visible here, but completely altered. The viewer is drawn by the essential identity of the work into the world of delicate sinuous curves. Paradoxically, we see the diagonal axis symbolising strength curve back and forth, suggesting unreliability. The impersonal forms and industrial colours in this work, despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance, create in the mind images rich in insight and association... Sol Aris has not completed the title of this image. Contrasts of the senses of smell and sound dominate the emptiness of the carving. A particularly contentious aspect of this work is the dominant angularity and horizontality contrasting strongly with the strongly curved upward flying elements of the picture. ``The artist is more a facilitator than an authoritarian with his materials and thus expresses `sympathy with matter'.''
