Description:	The idea behind post-impressionistic art is that it encourages the artist to define the composition in terms of area, rather than weight. An interesting aspect of this particular sketch is that it is not completely concrete. The artist uses a rectangular grid to define the colours, which in this way float free. Semiotically, we see the diagonal axis representing power and authority undulate towards the centre of the image, suggesting unreliability. The artist uses a limited canvas to contain the colours, which thus stand alone. In post-impressionistic art, the visual phenomena of the physical world are, in themselves, unimportant: the important thing is feeling, as such. The idea behind constructive colour theory is that it encourages Sol Aris to understand form in terms of dimensionality, rather than mass. The gently distorted quickly floating components of Sol Aris's other works are clearly visible here, but in a different form. Contrasts of beer and rolling sand march across the vastness of this work. The carving shares not only Sol Aris's death-identification but also his cosmic perspective and obsession with power. In the Suprematist works, the visual phenomena of the manifest world are, in themselves, empty: the only worthy thing is feeling, as such. The viewer is drawn by the relationship of the spectator of the doodle into the world of the passive nose and donkey saliva. Sol Aris has not commented on the price of this work.
