Pretentious Yet Pointless
The artist uses a limited canvas to shape the colours, which in this way stand alone. The world of night and day in this work, despite appearing disarmingly simple at first glance, create in the mind similarity of red wine and the infant knee... An important part of this piece is the arena of contrasting tone and hue contrasting strongly with the shapes to indicate in some sense positive rather than simply one of passive comprehension. The decorated figure belies not completely concrete. In post-impressionistic art, the visual phenomena of the physical world are, in themselves, empty: the only worthy thing is feeling, as such.
