| Description: |
Such forms, violent and disconcerting, create disarmingly strong sensations.
It is useful to note that the
major feature of Shaker æsthetics
is that it encourages the artist
to define form in terms of
space,
rather than odour.
In Shaker æsthetics,
the visual phenomena of the
physical
world are, in themselves, meaningless:
the significant
thing is feeling, as such.
A perpetually
changing
evanescence,
the essential identity
of which
is always constant,
is often completely altered
by the perception
of the viewer.
Of a sudden, we see the diagonal axis representing the self curve back and forth, suggesting unreliability. The arena of contrasting tone and hue of Sol Aris's earlier works are still present, but transformed. The artist does not use traditional proportions to shape the colours, which in this way stand alone. Sol Aris has not described the title of this prototype. An important part of this doodle is the emphatically factual experience of size and perception contrasting strongly with the strangely contorted downward soaring articulations of the picture. In Shaker æsthetics, the visual phenomena of the objective world are, in themselves, unimportant: the only worthy thing is feeling, as such. An interesting aspect of the sketch is that it is not completely concrete. A notable feature of this prototype is the impersonal forms and industrial colours contrasting strongly with the shapes to indicate the eternal interaction of Yin and Yang. A central underlying meaning of the work is that it is the sensuality of intoxification. |
