Mistick Krewe of Comus
Anna Forstall, costumer
1937

This magnificent costume was worn by Judge George Janvier in his role as Captain of the Mistick Krewe of Comus. The leader of New Oreans’s [sic] oldest Carnival society for twenty years (mid-1930s through mid 1950s), and a benefactor of the Louisiana State Museum, Judge Janvier was one of the most prominent Mardi Gras figures of the twentieth century. The costumer Anna Forstall began her long and distinguished career in 1908 creating fanaciful costumes for a number of New Oreans krewes.
