Lynn Powers made these costumes with papier-mâché heads for two friends to wear in the Society of St. Ann marching parade on Mardi Gras. Papier-mâché has been used in New Orleans to create costumes, floats and tableau decorations since the earliest days of street processions and tableau balls.
