This item is an Ancient Egyptian statue; the caption reads as follows:

Limestone Statue of a Young Man

Egyptian, from Behnessa (Oxyrhyneus).
Roman, 2nd – 3rd Centuries AD
1971.674

The statue is carved in a local style although the hair and eyes are typically Egyptian (similar to the mummy portraits in the Egyptian Gallery on the first floor). The stone has extensive traces of gesso (plaster coating) and pigment.

This unfortunate young man lacks feet.
